Like high valuations sort of stuff. You know, in that time period, the first rate hike they had done since 2018 was in March. And so early on I think I was driven by just doing something meaningful in the world and making some wealth. So just in the last five years or so, several labs have shown that basically, you dont want to change the cell state. And then they sort of hacked that to do our bidding and some. So looking at things from a lens of abundance rather than scarcity, but this brings me to the question of competition. No, the economics werent that good, but theyre selling at a distressed price. And I was like, I know its going to be controversial, but we have to solve this problem. It was kind of a gray market. Theyre kind of these long random strings of characters. And so hopefully it doesnt come across too negative. So Apple is going to basically be a $400 Billion and revenue company at the end of this year. What youre seeing is people starting to kind of dip their toes back in the water. It may still be on GitHub somewhere, but it was basically an Android app. I think I just read some stuff online. There is a GitHub that Jameson Lopp maintains on all the physical security threats that have happened with Bitcoin. So if youre a company, though, again, you go public to raise capital. Tim Ferriss: Yeah, thats a good question. And that gives you, again, the potential to do M&A, increased R&D. And I remember what that was like. So my question is, you might see some M&A allowed. So to win these deals with BlackRock and Meta and to land the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world and pension funds and those kinds of customers, and I would say even a large amount of retail customers, we have to have custodial solutions for them. I think commerce on Instagram is a homerun, if you think about it. And of course, I didnt have great answers to many of the biggest, broader societal issues. And it even ties into what we talked about in the beginning with Ray Dalios book. Yeah. [01:04:38][1.1], Rick Heitzmann: [01:04:38] You had 2000, 2003, which is the most analogous downturn in the market because its pretty tech specific, although all the others we talked about, all the asset classes are down, but the most punished are tech and theyre down substantially and there is a lot of existential risk in the financial crisis. In April 2021, Coinbase listed publicly on NASDAQ as COIN. So talk to me a little bit about how youre thinking about that, how is the sentiment into that? [00:40:08][0.9], Dan Nathan: [00:40:08] Im doing excellent. How do you sequence these cells now and what kind of data do you get out on the latest techniques? And then most scientists are building things which never get commercialized because theyre living in a pure academic world. And I recognize NFTs are not solely the domain of art or expensive JPGs, but I happen to be very interested in this world for a number of reasons. Like if Bitcoin were the only crypto and it got widespread adoption and it got like all of these things, then the fact that theres only 21 million bitcoin might matter as an inflation hedge, but the fact that like crypto as a whole can inflate by popping up new projects every day, I think kind of hurts that use case in a pretty meaningful way. And so we basically ran a full Bitcoin node right on the Android phone, people might laugh at it now, but at the time Bitcoin nodes were very small and lightweight and they could run on phones. So you should read up just the amount of confidence that people have always had at different points in history with the most ludicrous coping mechanisms for just shoddy interventions and so on. Its just I, I like that one now. And if this company now, as you just mentioned, if the car for them is software, right? Is there pools of capital out there that like if they get marked down because of whats going on in the private markets, because of whats going on with interest rates, will those funds need to actually maybe if they take marks on the private side, will they have to actually do things on the public side, the kind of level set or raise capital? So there might be a bias there, but if you wanted to make the case to the skeptics that actually, let me show you a couple of slides, let me show you a couple of historical examples, this is why I can make the case that its early. And as a partner at Google Ventures, he invested in a bunch of biotech companies. There was no paternity leave. Again, that was just to provide liquidity, get that public listing. So, more universities or education. I dont see too many of the laser eyes anymore. So he comes out and says hes willing to kind of proceed with the deal that he agreed upon in April pending receipt of debt financing proceeds. I think thats the most valuable scarce resource you have, and so you have to really preserve that. One is they just keep pushing boundaries enough and pissing users off enough and like pushing up against antitrust stuff enough that it just kind of falls apart. You know, we saw what just happened in the U.K. with the pound. And it was an incredibly important leadership moment for me because I was terribly scared to do it, I didnt want the controversy, I knew it was people were going to hate it. Just one example would be, if youre going through something really difficult, you might start to get kind of down, youre like, Oh man, this sucks. And youre a former trader. And it was strange because it felt like such a vocal, it felt like maybe it was 50% of the company or something. And then he knows a lot of these households have multiple users on one account. And yeah, theres a lot of funny stories in crypto where somebody had something on a thumb drive or whatever, and then they realized, I probably shouldnt just be carrying this around in my backpack, just walking around with $40 million in my backpack every day, if it happens to get stolen, its not good.. People, investors kept on pushing themselves out the risk spectrum right out. So so what would you say other than maybe some high profile companies, you know, closing down, what would you say would be lets lets take out worst case scenarios.
